I was looking at getting a new setup for surf fishing on the north shore. My ugly stik rod ain't cutting it, just doesn't work right with the poppers. So what I would like to do is get a baitcaster reel, never used on before, and an 8.5' rod. After reading some previous posts, I was looking at the Abu Garcia 6500 C3 reel and St. Croix 8.5' Casting Rod or Lamiglass G 1314-T. Does this look like a good light North Shore surf combo or is there something better I should be looking at?

For the reel definatly the abu 6500.
