Hey guys. I have my boat docked in Patchogue and make frequent runs to moriches. I also enjoy fishing right from shore. Can you guys recommend some spots to get me on to some weakfish. I seem to be having trouble finding the right areas. Baits would help too, I've just been using those little bass assasins. Any help would be appreciated

Weakies

Try down by Bouy 32 in front of Browns river or Heckster flats. In front of Patchouge river holds them sometimes.
Usa a samll diamond jig with a worm or Brkerly Power Bait that is 8" long green colored works.
I have had some fish there and if you are out and see the cla dredger try to get behind him when he stirs up the bottom. Usally fish are around when he does that.

Live Bait

Right now I think snappers are the way to go. 2-3oz drail(according to tide and current), 15-20lb leader (no heavier), 1/0 treble hook should do it.

Hecksher Flats are good especially in the spring...but right now I think you will only find smaller ones. The inlets were good places for the past couple of weeks b/c of cooler water. Especially along the beaches. The trick is to get the baits below the bluefish. The weaks, like Bass hold under Blues sometimes.

Artificials seem to work better for me in the spring when they are very hungry and easily fooled.

FYI: I have not fished for weaks in weeks but this is what worked for me lately.

Also you may want to try live peanut bunker.

From shore try down under the Smith Point bridge (park in the new lot on the west side of William Floyd just before going over the bridge), if you have a throw net peanut bunker is everywhere and seems to be the bait of choice right now for everything that swims in the bay
