I cant tell you much, but ill tell you what i can. First of all, you are never safe in a kayak. This is why you should look for the safest spots to fish, where the current isnt strong and where the tide is calm. Always keep a lifejacket on board, some guys even have inflatable life rafts. Just is case the kayak flips over, Learn how to flip the kayak back over. This is the only main fear you should have while kayaking. Good luck, and safe journies.

Why don't you wait till you can test paddle one before you buy it. The water temperature is falling now thru the weekend, If you go out make sure you have a dry top and wear a life preserver. There is a group of kayakers meeting over at Hempstead harbor this weekend if you want to meet up with them and have some company.Dan

My experience with WS kayaks is that they're capacities are pretty accurate. So if you're 250-260 and the capacity is only 300 you and gear are cutting it to close IMHO. I'm 190 and I get app. 1/2" of water in the forward/low part of the ****pit. You'd have a live well.

Take a serious look at the Emotion Fisherman, when it becomes available. Its as close to a Tarpon 120 as you can get. It will be a better choice if you spend more time in saltwater and its capacity is rated a very conservative 400.

hey guys thanks for all the great replys!! i realy apriciate it.. i met a guy a little bigger then i who has a tarpon 120 and he said he has never had a problem with the yak..the only thing he said is that when you stop and float around a bit you might have to put the plugs in the drain holes!!other then that he said its the best kayak he had ever owned!! i also spoke with someone from wilderness systems and they said i would have know problem with my weight in the yak. i let them know that i would have a ton of fishing gear with me and they said that would be just fine!!SO!! i will go to pick up my new tarpon angler this weekend!! tanks for all the advice fellas.. you realy are a great bunch guys!!....SD....

Paddle it first!!!!!

I'd hold my horses a week or so and chill out on the eagerness to buy a yak ...................though I know its tough when your chomping at the bit to get one.
This water is very cold and the fishing is still weeks away..............even tho folks are trying to wish it wasn't so :)

I'd go to the Hemp Harbor gathering this weekend and check everyone out.Try a few boats and perhaps even a 120.

Second: buy used and save your $$ for better things.
No sense spending top dollar on a piece of plastic when a used one will be just as good.
There are 120's to be had used for hundreds of $$ savings.

Dealers will tell you anything to make a sale.................and 99.9999% have never fished from a yak.

Pay heed to JONS's post................
the Fisherman is sounding like THE yak to buy if fishing is your goal.
That make must be bought new as there are no used ones to be found ;)
