need rod advise

1065 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  mocean
I have a Corsair 400A reel sitting on my desk with no rod. I could use some advice on rods to match it. Ideally, something heavy enough to fluke in 80 feet with a lot of lead. (Can that real even handle that?) I'd like to use the same rod and reel for stripers. First, I want to make sure I have a balanced set-up.

Also how would powerpro work (30 - 50lbs test) on the Corsair?

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

Mocean,

The real size is fine. I do all my bass and deep fluking with 401 TE's and 401 catala's.

As for a rod:
1) G-loomis muskie series
MUR766C-JB OR MUR884C-MB $150

2)St.Croix Muskie PM70HFS $120

graphite is king !

My bad

I meant 786.

You are correct, the only difference is power and length.

My favorite is the MUR914C-MB 7'7" 1-3 oz. This rod casts awesome and can handle 12oz sinkers well. It is a little more pricey, about 200.

The entire muskie series is IMO just fantastic.
