I'm looking to buy a rod for PB cod and tilefishing.
The rods I'm looking at are all 8' med./heavy action and are graphite or a composit, graphite/fiberglass.
Needs to be able to handle up to 24oz jigs or 3 lbs. of lead.

Looked at the seekers and they seem OK
Also, does anyone like the Lamiglass Triflex Rods

For example; BL8050C 8' 20-50lb Line Mod $195.99

Thanks
K.C.

If you're not looking to break the bank, yet still get the perfect rod for what you're looking to do, give Capt.Neil a call. He'll set up an appointment with you at his shop and paitently go over every aspect of the rod, and will design it based entirely on input from you. You will end up with exactly what you are looking for, and it will be a high quality tool, yet more than reasonably priced. I already own two of Neil's rods, and he just completed a third one for me, a codfish rod to be exact :). Just have to pick it up, now!

Besides all this, there isn't a nicer, more paitent guy around than Capt.Neil

Your right JC about a custom rod rod being the way to go, but I'm really just looking to get an "off the rack" rod right now to use right away. Price is not an issue when it comes to fishing tackle, although my wife differs in opinion. Some of the production rods available are well made and will suit my needs and the prices I'm seeing are manageable.
Just trying to see what other guys are using and get some input before choosing a rod.
Thanks

If this helps any I have a lami cbgt96MH which im preety sure is the same blank number as factory 8050. I like this rod alot It will hold 24 ounces of lead no promblem and the heaviest jig ive swing on the rod was 14ounces. Its mostly my offshore seabass rod and codfish rod up to 250ft. My friend has the same rod built and hes used his tilefishing before IMHO i think its a little light, but all in all the rod has balls is super senstive and i love how the road loads up with a decent fish on it. It bends like a glass stick when you got a fish on. If i were you I would get the one step heavier which i think is the cbgt96xh ??? not too good with blank numbers. I do know seeker makes a 8ft meat stick for under 150 thats a beast and would defintely get the job done. It could 3lbs of lead no prob. I believe its called the rock cod rod or something like that. Thing is a beast. Hope this helps Capt Chris

Off the rack cod rods

Not sure how accurate this is, but about a year ago, I was trying to find a Lami BL8050, but was told that they stopped making that model rod. I would think that if you searched hard enough, you can find one, though.

I had that Seeker that lightackleman refered to, the model# is BA-COD. You're absolutely right, it is a broomstick, actually a bit too stiff for my own tastes, so I sold it on this site recently without ever using it, lol! But given the sinkers required for tiles sometimes, I would imagine it may be a good choice.

I believe they did stop making the model because when my friend bought the blamnk they told him it was the last one he had. Yea thats its BA-COD its defintley not to stiff if you gotta lay the lead on or put the heat on a big fish. Slap a saltist 50 on there 80lb braid good to go.

For my tastes, for codfishing, it was. Someone actually bought it for me as a gift, I don't think I would have bought it on my own. Like I said, if he has to use a few lbs. of lead while tilefishing, then I'm sure it would work great.

Calstar Graphiter 800 or 900 H. or Lami MB 1143 uncut....or trim from the tip till you get the action you want.

I saw the Calstar 800H specs. and it looks like it's what I'm after but it's hard to know without holding it in your hands, and thats exactly my problem here. Currently living in P.A. about 2 hrs from the nearest tackle dealer worth visiting.
This is a temporary situation. Meanwhile, I travel for fishing and for now ,shop on line.
I have a rod that is close to what I'm after and thats a G.Loomis Pelagic PSR10240C SU. It's 8 1/2' and very stiff. Great for jigging tuna but a hair too long (especially the handle) and a little too light.

You can't beat the seekers

Thats all i use for my Tile and Tuna Jigging. Not sure of the model # but send me a pm and i'll check when i get home. Easily handels 3-4 lb sinkers. For Tuna jigging i match it up with a Penn Torque 300. For Tile i use either a Penn 4/0 or Electric reel (Daiwa). I have landed numerous 40+ lb Tiles with this setup.Never had a problem.

If you want something light and graphite to swing that kind of payload, I'm afraid that your only option is to cut down a 10'-11' one piece surf blank to desired dimensions, which tends to run into money. The Seeker cod rod will handle it, but that rod weighs more than most fish you're going to catch with it. I get winded just looking at that thing.
