does anyone have any advice or tricks or the trade to replace torn up shad bodies on the hooks that are still attached to the leader and swivels that are from umbrella rigs??? I am tired of tearing up & ruining the new shad body in the process. The way I see it the only way to do this right is to have a supply of new ones made up in advance by the use of leader material, hook, sleeves, swivels and a crimping tool. Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Replacing rubber bodies (shads, FinS, etc) is tricky, to get them to lay straight and at proper length on the hook.

The technique I use is to carefully lay the jig head over the body of the rubber lure taking care not to stretch or bend the body. I carefully note where on the body the hook bend would come out and use the hook point to make a very slight nick in the top of the rubber body at that point. Then I carefully thread the hook through the body so the point comes out where I made the nick. Done right the rubber body sites evenly on the jig head.

But it does take some practice and inevtiably a few are damaged anyway. :(
