I had no luck this weekend. Went out for about 5 minutes before my overheating buzzer came on. When we investigated what was blocking the intake, we found a plastic bag wrapped around the lower unit. Even after pulling it off, we could not get water to flow. I had a great OMC machanic but now I just bought a 94 Robalo with a 200 Merc on it. I am looking for a mechanic who is good with Mercury Outboards. I live around manhassat, glen cove area. Anyone have recommendations? I would really like for someone to come to the boat. Thanks

Either you had two problems, the plastic bad and some other cooling system problem or, more likely, the bag blocked your intake, the pump impeller went dry and self-destructed. What I'm saying is it's probably not too serious, your average hack could probably take care of it, as water pumps are easy enough.
