Had my fiends greg & sal from the patty ann down this weekend for a bottom fish trip i knew it was gonna be a good one because these guys are sick with a rod in their hand we loaded up with yellowedge, snowy, red grouper, beeliners, triggers, and almaco jacks. It was great having them on the boat cause we fished toghether every trip back home. Greg broke out some grouper secrets from florida and was crushin em and sal i lost count of how many fish he caught but it was great having u guys on the boat. Sal i will see u in july for the wedding

Greg and Sal
Although i couldnt get to make the trip its great to see you guys on the boat, be it only in pictures. I guess a lot has happened since i have been on the boat with you guys( weddings and babies ), but i still remember all the great times we had together.

Sal - good luck with you upcoming wedding

Greg - best wishes and congrats on the baby

Hopefully we can get together for a tuna trip in NC or up north, or maybe even one of those classic offshore bottom trips in the canyons up north

Best Wishes

Tony

R/L..

A few questions if I may?

I am on the Gulf Coast of Florida near Ft Myers. We have proposed regs in place that might shut down grouper fishing for 3 months next year and also a reduced bag limit from 5 to 3 fish per angler.

Needless to say it has a lot of people up in arms, especially the Charter Captains, who BTW are held to a higher standard with equipment needed to fish. No 2 bass rule down here if you get my drift. They also need Federal Reef Permits ($$$) to fish in Fedral waters.

Lets face it down here rule of thumb is air temp = water depth. So if it's 90 + degrees air temp, running 80-90+ miles during the summer is almost a lock for Red, Gag, Scamp, Black Grouper, and ARS. You want what you catch it's even deeper and further. With cost of fuel and the reg changes I have just about had it.

First where do you fish out of and how far off do you run for these types of catches.

I am seriously either thinking of packing fishing entirely or relocating to N/C. No BS it is that bad down here and what I had mentioned is only off shore, same ridiculas regs changes are being proposed for inshore fishing also with even stronger regs and closure for snook.

Joey's father is in Florida, so he shares the plight that you do, Joey is commercial fishing in NC and runs to King pin drops in the stream, so what thats 15,18,20 miles-ish....Possibly as close as 12 miles, What I know from fishing on the Capt. Stacy and the Shelf, the fishing is good from 60+ miles off to right under the beach...It was either Wilmington NC on the Cape Fear, or Maine for me...I got the job in Maine

I can Live with that distance

Thanks for the info.

The Gulf Stream is not that far off which I could live with.

12-15 off here MAYBE during the cooler months will produce some just keeper size gags and reds. Even a decent bait drop is a 6 mile run sometimes.

This running 60-90 miles off for 3 fish is NUTZ!!

Kings and Spanish Macks are plentiful but that gets old real fast, same as Tarpon. Being a mostly bottom fishing and bass guy from Long Island this definitly has my interest.

Other wise watch for a huge tackle sale.;)

WOW

All I can say is TREMENDOUS JOB Captain. These pictures have me VERY psyched for my 60 Viking Charter in January fishing for similar species. The proposed Regs in Florida could be devastating but hopefully it wont be.
