Fished with Norman and Yvon from Delaware yesterday. Niether guy had ever fished in the ocean and wanted to pull on something Big!! so it was off to the wrecks to find some AJ's. The best part about fishing from Atlanti Beach ois the close run to the grounds. Most runs are inside 40 nm and much closer in the summer months. First jig down and we hooked up with a 50 plus LB Cobia. After that it was all the AJ'S you could want in the 25 to 50 LB range. Norm was done after 2 fish so he went to the bottom and loaded up with Triggerfish, Vermilion Snapper, Silver Snapper and Sea Bass. This is a short run from the NY/NJ area which makes for a good road trip, Kil has been down 3 time in the last few weeks and could tell you how good the Bottom Fishing is in this area. As the water warms up the dolphin and wahoo will move inside 30 nm as well and the AJ's can be caught with in sight of land. The Flounder are also moving in they need to be 15 1/2 and can be caught all summer and fall. Ken

When the guys want to catch cobia and AJ's that's what you do with them. It gave me a great opportunity to do alot of jigging myself and try a bunch of diffrent jigs out. I found that the best jig was the Tady 45 I used it for yellowtail in Mexico. All these guys wanted to do is fish AJ's, We caught well over 50 AJ's and over 80 Triggerfish and just as many Vermilion Snapper Big one's too. Didn't even bother fishing grouper they didn't have the touch for it. It was about 50 min to an HR run to the grounds and there wasn't anytime that someone wasn't hanging a fish. This trip was very sucessful being the run was short and the fishing was red hot. All I read about is AJ's and Aj's we caught till you coundn't pull on another one and no 70 mile run to the grounds. The offshore meat trip is set up for may 23,24 and 25th. Three days of an all out slaughter. If the weather is good I am going to stay out overnight and just paint the boat RED!!! Kil you haven't seen anything yet. You need to come down and do one of these trips. Joe and I are planning one so jump onboard. Ken

Ken, I know some fishermen here will go down there to fish with you soon. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of 30 - 40 lbs groupers and 50 -80 lbs AJ> :) I just discussed with EC Newell that NC possesses great fishery and we start to realize it.

awesome Ken, I can't wait to get down there. Even though I'm looking forward to the groupers, I don't mind them snappers in the least bit. It's good to know there are so many options when fishing down there.

About the overnighter, is that going to be Sunday/Monday?? I hope so 'cause those are the days I'm there lol. Let me know if you received my flight details alright.

That's a pretty small jig, takes a while to get to the bottom. I've caught a few YT on it, but it's nothing special, just a typical cast & wind west coast jig.
Most West Coast irons have pretty good side kick action.
You never know what works best until you try. :)

I cranked reel fast Kil. Got hit 9 out of every 10 drops. All the cobia came on jigging off the bottom. The 4 or 5 AJ'S would follow the hooked fish everytime. It was a blast and one good work out. Ken
