I am new to the forum and hope I'm posting in the correct place. In the beginning of April my father and I will be running his boat from lindenhurst ny to howard beach ny staying inside most of the way. Was hoping for any info on the route (Such as new obstructions, quickest, fuel docks, pirates jk etc.) also any recommendations on inlets jones or east rockaway ( best tides, weather (ie stay away if NE wind) new obstruction etc.)
The boat is a 24 ft osprey 81/2 ft beam 150gal fuel single I/o. I would appreciate any info especially about pirates . Thank you for your help in advance.

Nobody has anything not even inlet preference?
If you can wait for a nice day you can go out JI and you will avoid the speed restrictions in Reynolds Channel. If you're not in a hurry you can stay inside up to Debs. It's a pretty easy run and you shouldn't have much trouble. If you can pick you're day avoid any day that's puffing out of the South or East, or when there is a big ground swell.
Yeah we're going to try to wait for ideal weather. Thank you for your help. Would you have any idea on approx travel time cruising is 22-25 kts. ?

You're not going to be able to cruise at 22-25 knots if you stay inside.
Speed restrictions or debris? I know there are restriction areas but figured we'd be able to cruise for parts.
Just speed restrictions. You can't run for most of the channel West of Long Beach HS. It's slow going all the way out to Rockaway Inlet. You'll have to go outside there anyway, so why not go on a nice day and run it out Jones and cruise down the beach.
More pirates inside than outside, and you can run from them with out having to slow down for the no wake zones on the outside...

have your cutlasses drawn and ready...arrrghhhhh
Yeah that's what I was asking. I have zero knowledge of jones or east rock inlets my fathers knowledge dates to the 60's I know FI inlet can really suck. Was looking for opinions on each inlet if we can find an "ideal" day. Thank you!

We are bringing extra cannon balls just in case.
The ACE has just finished dredging Jones Inlet. It should be in better condition now than it was last fall. East Rockaway Inlet is due to be dredged as well.

With that said, if the water is too rough to get out of Jones, it will probably be a nasty ride down the beach from ER inlet to Breezy Point. Jones is usually doable if there is an incoming current. Outgoing water is much less desirable. I would pick Jones. If it is too rough to get out, turn around and go back to Lindenhurst and do it another day.
Much appreciated thank you!
