Narragansett Bay

Anyone fish the Narragansett Bay area for stripers. for years now i have enjoyed catching blues, and bottom fish. stripers seem to avoid me.

I've fished around Block and at the entrance to the Pt Judith salt pond, but never in the bay itself.

I have fished around the Block, but my kids hate the ride, so i was looking for some striper action closer to the dock. I just got an electric downrigger for my boat, im going to give that a try this year.

where in the bay are you? all those rocks around Jamestown look very fishey to me, but I haven't tried it.

Wickford

Mike, Im out of Wickford Shipyard. yes those Rocks around beavertail do look fishey, In your opinion what would be the best technique to try there?

I'd start off casting plugs and tin. Maybe try drifting an eel if I had a small enough boat that I didn't have to worry about the draft. If you can fin where a rip forms, you might try anchoring up and using clam bellies. I know they catch some tautog down there.

I will try that. Ever do any early season Inshore cod fishing? I Always wanted to try that. Some say they hang out in the deep holes near the Block.

Yep, I've fished for cod around block and at the cartwright grounds off montauk as well as in the deeper water. Some days good, some days bad. I much prefer the warm weather fishing out at cox's

What kind of boat do you have? is it a MAKO, or is that what your fishing for?

It's been over 10 years since I fished the bay. Back then, you could find stripers of of Quonset Point in the early morning hour a and at dusk. Plugs and tin seemed o do the trick.

ope, I don't own a Mako, though I do occasioannly fish for them. The name of my boat, a 30ft Blackwatch, is "Makomania" hence the handle a number of my freinds hung on me.

Wow, Blackwatch is nice boat. I have a 26' Shamrock. I would like to get out of the bay a bit more. get into some bigger species.

With a 26 Shammie, you should be able to go anywhere! Just keep an eye on the weather.
