Congrats on your first boat. I've always admired Hobie power skiffs. I raced on Hobie catamarans growing up. They are well built boats. My understanding is that the powerskiff was developed to wave jump and play in the southern california area. I believe they are a foam sandwich construction like boston whaler and are unsinkable. It looks like a very cool seaworthy minimalist boat to me. In the spring and fall you'll undoubtably want some good foul weather gear because you'll be taking on cold spray, but thats true of any fifteen footer.
