What was the most impressive catch (single fish or just all out lock and load fishing) you have ever witnessed on a partyboat?

For me I think it has to be the 1st bigeye landed on jtzannes Viking charter last summer. It was just an impressive catch from a partyboat and it took cooperation to get that fish in the boat. Everyone was excited to see it come over the rail.

That was the first of seven eyeballs caught that day. John, Fishwisher, and Kil fought that fish. Ryan had a matching fish on as well but his line snapped after a while. The mates directed the capt as to what the fish was doing to keep the boat positioned perfectly. It was the teamwork that made it stand out above other catches I have seen. That fish weighed just under 300# when we weighed it 3 days later at the dock.

AWESOME EYEBALL!!

Kil probably caught it on a darn jig too. lol

But i would have to say the most incredible things i have seen was back in like 2000 when i was like 16 and working on the White star IV out of barnegat light nj we used to have some old times who were the best blackfishermen i have ever seen and anthony the one old times has ths state and world record blackfish... They were amazing. We used to run 5am-5pm blackfishing marathons and they would have a cooler full each with nothing under 10lbs! it was crazy!! wish i had pictures but never thought it would not be good fishing like it was back then today...

Also remember the same years going sea bass fishing 10 miles off the beach and fillinf large totes with sea bass from 1-7lbs... they were huge and we would fill 15 totes with fish all med-jumbos! it was also the best time of my life fishing with some of my oldest and best friends around! those are the good time..

This is off the partyboat subjext but i was 11 years old in a my 3rd bay boat a 14 ft hobie hopper out of forked river nj at my fathers house. I started fishing the oyster creek channel and we loaded the entire 30qt cooler with fluke and the entire floor was covered! it was insane and there was not really alimit back then... lol might get yelled at for that but all fish were 15" and over! it was rediculous.. like 20 fish per drift.. had to have over 100 fish but lost count.. got back at 5pm after we left the dock at 12noon and we fileted fish until 9pm.. 4 horus of filetting fish and i am pretty quick at filletting fluke! man what a day!

Witnessed a 300 + sword and a 200 alison taken on the Frances a number of yrs. ago . Both fish were taken on boat rental rods and believe one was a 6/0 senator and the other a daiwa 900 h if memory serves . Boated an eye about 200 on the frances, caught on a 16 oz. crippled herring and daiwa 900h . Again on the frances and probably a dozen yrs. ago at least.

Too many memories of huge catches of big fish

But two trips will always stand out in my mind. The first was on the Capt Al, many years ago. Al had somehow gotten hold of some numbers to an almost virgin wreck. As soon as we anchored till the time we quit we stayed on the wreck and nailed truely huge Cod. They averaged 25+ lbs with at least 15 fish boated over the 50 lb mark. I managed 2 over 50, and my father nailed 3 over 50 plus we broke off at least 8-10 that we simply could not stop. There was a guy fishing next to my father who broke off at least 8 big fish, they straight out broke his brand new 60 lb test Ande like it was 25lb test.
The second trip was just a few years ago on the Viking. It was on an Abyss trip. Because of the weather we only got to fish 1 day out of a 4 day trip. But what a day that was. I landed 25 Tiles up to 35 lbs. It was truely lock and load fishing with many double headers comming over the rails. Capt Steve got into the action and landed a double header of 25lb and 35 lb Tiles. Capt Steve said that it was the hottest Tile bite that he had ever witnessed.

Viking Tuna Trip

Went on a 3 day tuna trip aboard the viking starship about 5 yrs or so ago. We headed out and on the way out we got alot of rope caught in the props, just so happened there was a diver on board who volunteered to go over the side and dive down under the boat and cut the rope free. Well after all done we started our trip up again. My buddy and i went to the wheelhouse and talked to Capt. Steven and asked where he was headed, he said he is not stopping until he finds warm water. I looked at my buddy and laughed. It was awesome. Well 12 hours later he finally cut the throttles and anchored up in the hydrogephers canyon and it was the best tuna bite i had ever witnessed. It was a slaughter. These fish were all nice 60 to 80 pound yellowfins and just green mean fish. Breaking 80 pound leaders like nothing. These fish were nasty. We fished for 12 hours and every fish hole in the boat was filled to the top and we were on our way back in. We traveled out 12 hrs, fished nonstop for 12 hrs and made our 12 hr. run in early. Just an swesome boat, crew and captain. Another time i went on the viking starship with cpt. Paul forseberg on a 3 day cod trip and he went to a wreck that wasn't fished in a very long time and we nailed 40 to 55 pound cod like they haven't eaten in years. It wa unreal.

Earlie 90's on the BLUE SEA from s/bay fished the bacardi in the day for our fill of large bluefin to 350#. Then fished that night in the hudson for an amazing yellow fin and albie bite there were even a few bigeye's. One of the crew even free gaffed a 100 pound sword.I know there are some people on this site that were on this trip it was the best fishing you could imagine.I learned so much that trip and many many others from the owners of that boat..
