I fished from 5:30am - 7:15am. I started off with a rubber shad, then went to a bucktail and finished off with a SS Little Neck popper. Had a few bumps on the shad, caught one sea robin on a bucktail and then caught 2 small schoolies and 3 blues (2-4 lbs) on the popper. Baitfish were definitely present- just couldn't make out what they were. The water was very calm and clear!
A funny thing happened just before the sun came up. I felt something on my line - as I reel it in it appears to be a good size piece of sea weed. When I go to take it off, it starts flapping around in my hand! It was a bat that had got tangled in my line! I was quite startled to say the least. I'm just glad I was able to get it off unharmed - that was a first! Next time you think you have sea weed on your line just before dawn - beware!!
