Guys Guys Guys.

This offends me. We all know the Indians run the 7-11s. The Arabs run the gas stations.

But seriously. I don't think this is funny. Pictures like this only cause problems.

There is too much backlash from people against Mid-Eastern people, american citizens. This isn't funny.

I think that the rule in the lounge (and places like it) is that every post offends someone. This is where offensive posts get moved to. The usual response to being offended is showing up the poster at his own game. I understand that one is not always in the mood to do this every single time.

The lines are being drawn between patriotic and unpatriotic a lot these days. When something is classified as patriotic, it is acceptable by default. Unless it is also way, way over the line. So Patrick, you gotta ask yourself, was this way, way over the line? If the answer is yes, well go for it......

PATRICK - LIGHTEN UP

This is no worse then jokes about the Irish being drunk, the Poles being stupid, the Italians all being in the mob & the Scots being cheap.

Pictures like this regularly show up during the monologues on the Late Night TV talk Shows.

Calling a Terrorist ring leader a loser is worse then the wise cracks made about breast cancer on one of the other treads? This is what is confusing me and it is ashame that the thinking in todays society is to protect the wrong. The breast cancer tread i believe started with good intentions and them got mocked. So i would like to tell you that link OFFENDS me and i bet others that have seen what cancer does to people and their families are also offended.

Yes this is like the Irish, Polish jokes etc except for one thing.

There are very real people who are Arab descent that want nothing more than to live the American Dream just like you and me. Two cars in the garage, 2.5 children and a thriving business to keep both of them going.

Calling an Irish a drunk is one thing. I get it all the time.(As my name shows, I'm Irish) This is a little different. Images likes this don't work against Osama Bin Laden, it works against those citizens of our beautiful country.

We may live in the greatest nation of all times, but we still have a bunch of idiots. People who think harassing and chasing after people is allright because they are arab and they are the enemy.

I just don't think it's funny.

"Images likes this don't work against Osama Bin Laden"

The image is of Osama Bin Laden,
if you choose to relate this to all Arabs, then that is YOUR way of viewing this picture.

If some Arab Americans identify with Osama, and are offeneded by the picture,
then those are the type of people we do not want or need in this country.

Patrick are you sympathetic to Osama
or you just trying to stir the pot as usual ?

Maybe you should have a few more drinks before responding, your thoughts might become more lucid. ;)

Patrick are you sympathetic to Osama?

Are you serious about that question? Or is it just meant to stir the pot further?

It is possible to discuss that picture as a piece of humour which is offensive to some groups (Arabs who are are afraid of racism and discrimination, 7-11 owners who have kids fighting in the coalition, politically correct white guys, etc).

Unfortunately, a lot of people (Arabs and non-Arabs) view the Arab world as united and possibly against the US. It is not a very sophisticated view, but 50% of any group of people will never be as smart as the other 50%; still they all get to have an opinion.

If we could keep these discussions from getting personal, it would be a lot more pleasant around here.

Skatey,
Amen to "keeping it from getting personal." That's one of the reason I deleted mean's message and just edited another.
Guys,
you can argue about anything as long as you want. But don't start insulting the other guy just because he disagrees with you. That's like trying to teach pigs to sing. It makes you look bad and annoys the pig.

What a load of crap!!!

Oooops! I hope I haven?t offended any colons out there. The problem is that everyone is trying so hard to reach some unattainable level of political correctness. Why do we have to worry so much about who is going to be offended by what? In this day and age the unfortunate truth is that if you?re American no matter what you do or say it?s going to offend someone. The problem is that we have taken to obsessing over it to such a degree that we?re tripping over ourselves in an effort to be ?PC? so much so that we are beginning to loose who we are. But no one else cares about that. We change what we want to say and how we say it when we do. We rename our athletic teams and change their mascots. I never thought a smiling ?Native American?s? face was any more or less offensive than an obese apron and chef?s hat clad handlebar mustached ?chef? on the cover of almost every pizza box in America. Yet, the Braves and the Redmen are gone but Guido the Guinea still gets delivered to my door twice a week. It doesn?t bother me (I?m American-Italian), and you know what? No one else seems to care either. We worry about what pictures we publish and what message it will send. We actually suppress, or alter our feelings on any given issue or subject or opt for not expressing them at all for fear that ?someone? might be offended by ?our? beliefs and feelings while we busy protecting and defending theirs. The big joke is that we have even taken to re-writing history in an effort to appease groups that might feel offended or disenfranchised if history was left to stand how it actually happened. Imagine that!

The real truth is if you were really ?PC? and truly unbiased when you saw a picture ridiculing Osama Bin Laden you would see it exactly as that a picture ridiculing Osama Bin Laden and not having any reflection what so ever to with others that share his religion or country of origin. Therefore it is those of you that feel that pictures ridiculing Bin Laden offend others that are making the leap to associating him with groups and therefore it is you that are guilty of stereotyping and not us.

The point PATRICK made initially, could be argued. Some might conclude that it is profiling, and I suppose they would be right.

But his comments afterward do not even come close to supporting that concept, unfortunately.

I can easily see the intentions WADER was conveying when he started the thread. It is humorous. In light of this, and the forum it was posted in, and although PATRICK is justified in his objection, it is useless to try to elaborate on an ethnical argument.

Plus - it will tend to lead to personal insults......and it will suit PATRICK fine, I'm sure, to see the entire thread deleted.
