Hello. I am planning on heading out to the point for the first weekend in Oct. Can anyone please advise as to where might be the best place to wet a fly line?

Shag is on the north side of Montauk. You'll need a 4x4 and the county permit to get there.

OTOH, you can park at Gin Beach (end of east lake drive) and walk the beach. Bit too far to walk to shag IMO. ;)
