Eddie Beneducci who owns and runs the Marlin IV out of Montauk just called me from florida to bust my chops about the the great weather and fishing in Florida and he mentioned that he'll be back in Montauk in April and starting April 5 he going to start targeting Snow Shoe Flounders.
He said last year some of his Commercial buddies crushed them
and he has some good drops.
I am looking forward to it
It been a long time since I had good Flounder fishing You guys remember the crazy big flounders 4 and 5 lbs down by the Hooter and Block Island areas.
Dam I remember geting 2 and 3lb flounder at the Bay at the Raritan,Coney flats,Romer and the Shoal bouy hope the flounders make a come back.

Ed didn't mention any thing about running any head boats
Before he left for Florida He tried to get me to go down to pin hook for Groupers so he might be pin hooking
we didn't speak too long cause he had another call.

hey sam - i grew up fishing out of howard beach. those shoal bouy flounders were something special. incoming tide with a blitz toward high at high slack. i used to nail them on the mussel beds, along with a nice by catch of blacks and stripers. I fish out of jones now, (were we have no flounder to speak of) the only time I get to fish down there is with one of my buddies. the shoal bouy just doesn't seem to produce anymore. coney island flats (outgoing) used to be second rate compared to the shoal bouy area. i had another spot along the back side of breezy, a little to the east where we used to kill them. this spot, too, no longer produces. i know fishing is down but these spots have fallen off disproportionally (is that a word?). go figure.....

Ed called me while I was in
Virgnia and said that he was changing the wheels and painting the bottom on the boat and hoped to get fishing by the 15th.
Can't wait he has some nice cod fish and Snow Shoe flounder drops.
