Driving the stretch from the light all the way to the Oyster Pond or further can be pretty hairy. Some tight squeezes between rocks, Some that you close your eyes and hope for the best as you squeeze between. Don't get stuck down low if the tides coming in. If you are the type that baby's your buggy, drive around to the TR County Park at the end of East Lake Drive. It can save you time and a lot of anxiety.

Waterlcked,

I totally understand what you mean! This is what I usually do. Most of the times my tires are aired down and I drive to town with it … but I drive on the "slow" lane. This may sound cumbersome to few… but if you think about it - it's takes the same amount of time to air up & down…

When I need to get back into the action - I don't have to air down.

It's all a matter of convenience and saving valuable fishing time. :)

Thanks Al.

I have a cheap compressor. Think I spent $20 or so. It takes several minutes per tire. It works well just slow. time better spent fishing.

Been thinking about getting a high output compressor like Oasis sells. Anyone have one? how are they? given that most 4x4 places (demo, smiths, shiny) have them, I'm not sure if I want to spend the dough.

Good point Al!!!!!!!

I drive a 1988 cherokee which is strickly used for the beach,I also air down but only to about 25lbs.This enables me a better ride on the beach & decreasing a blowout on my trek back to johneys pizza when I get hungrey,or fuel up.You really don't need to air down that much,as it can be pretty rocky.Airing down allways helps but no need to air down that much,My tires stay air downed all weekend, then when it is time to go,I head back to T.R.Park,& air'em back up for my ride home.

Some of the good spots are a long way from an air pump. I have two systems. The first good one I got was a CO2 system from Oasis. I run 70 to 80 lbs and this system pumps them up with no sweat. For you guys running a little over 30 PSI you can do about 40 fill ups.:). The other system came from Commack Precision Auto and is belt driven off my motor. This is serious air. It's great for Gilgo and Cedar And a few places that I don't care to mention. When the lines are long at Demo and Smith Point just drive out to the street and do your thing.

The best stuff doesn't come cheep but when you want your $30000 4WD to get yor butt home you don't want a $20 cigarette lighter job.The other system I have cost MORE.:) Also, the more you spend the faster they work and they don't overheat. With tires that run around 30 PSI on the road the CO2 deal will have you running down the highway in about ten minutes or less. Think about it.

The CO2 is in liqued form in the tank with the gas in the area just over the top of it. Depending on the air temperture te gas in the tank runs around 900 PSI, the same as a fire extinguisher. The regulator brings it down to 0- 150 PSI depending on how you set it. You get the tanks filled at any firematics place that does extinguishers. You can tell when the tanks are getting low by weighing them, difference between empty tank and full one, same as propane. I use mine as a back-up in case the air pump on the motor goes.

I will admit that big air cost big bucks but it will last a lifetime.you buy it one time, thats it. If your at home and your brides car gets a flat, you're ready to put a plug in and reinflate. They claim that the CO2 will even put a tire back on the bead if it pops off. Try that with a cigarette lighter job.

Hope this helps. If you can afford a $500 reel you can protect you truck with a $400 pump.
