Hey Guys

I want to spool up my penn 70VS with 100lb mono, but not sure which line is best..I hear a lot about Izor, but not sure if its better than momoi..But momoi diamond has large diameter compared to Jinkai, which is suppose to be reall good too. Many recommend putting izor spectra as backing, but others say its a very weak link betweeen spectra and mono top shot...What do you guys think??? I will be fishing mostly charter, partyboats. The price is really not the issue, I just want something very reliable. And if using spectra backing, which do you recommend?? Izor spectra, powerpro, spider, whiplash??? All advice appreciated.

LINE FOR YOUR 70VS

MOIMOI DIAMOND IN CLEAR IS THE BEST BET FOR PARTY BOATS. THE 130 BREAKS AT 220 LBS,PLENTY STRONG FOR WINCHING ON A PARTY BOAT. ALSO DIAMOND HAS GOOD ABRASION RESISTANCE AND HOLDS KNOTS WELL. YOU MIGHT ALSO CHECK SUFFIX, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER WHEN FISHING ON A PARTY BOAT IS THAT YOU ARE FISHING ON A FIXED PLATFORM,MEANING IF YOU HOOK A NICE ALLISON OR EYE THE SKIPPER ISN'T GONNA FIRE EM UP AND CHASE IT DOWN SO YOU BETTER HAVE SUITABLE "STRING" FOR PULLING. GOOD LUCK.....

But would you actually put 130LB test momoi on the reel??? I was thinking about going with 100 mono. I think 130 is too heavy, and I highly doubt I'll be catching anything above 200 pounds.

LINE FOR YOU 70VS PART II

80 LB DIAMOND WOULD BE PERFECT FOR YOUR APPLICATION ALSO. 80 DIAMOND BREAKS BETWEEN 120-140 AND HAS THE SAME QUALITIES THAT THE 130 WOULD HAVE. MORE IMPORTANT THAN THAT IS THE FLOUROCARBON-ESQUE QUALITIES THAT DIAMOND LINE HAS IT IS TRULY AMAZING STUFF

MakoMike,

What spectra would you use, and what fluorocarbon??? are you referring to the seguar fluoro leader??? Also, do you think its a strong link between the spectra and mono?? I get so many mixed reviews.

I've got 900 yards of 130lb hollow spectra on mine plus a 100 yard topshot of 100lb Momoi Hi-Catch. 80lb Diamond for chunking would be ideal too. I splice an end loop in the hollow spectra and serve an end loop on my topshot. Connect the two with a loop to loop connection and you have a 100% knotless connection that will not fail. Replacing the topshot is quick and easy, and you'll recover the cost of the spectra in 2 or 3 seasons considering the cost of mono these days. Filling that reel with Jinkai has to cost $80 or so. With the topshot concept, your reel is always full with fresh mono and no knots, which is exactly what you want.

Macho,
I'd use the jerry brown spectra, loop to loop for the top shot. Probably seaguar, but ande and several others have also come out with flouro. If your unsure of how to do the connection Basil can set you up for not much more than the cost of the materials.
