I don't know these folks at all but I'm planning on attending if I can.My schedule is hectic this time of year but I'm aiming to make it on down ...put some faces to names and just say hello.
I'm overdue to show up one of these says

Might be a great place for the newer folks just coming into the kayak fishing thing to go to and meet people that have been into it for awhile.Or those that have have tinkered with the thought of buying one to get into those places that no one else can go

Or us "older" well seasoned salty old crust kayak fishermen to meet & greet and just shoot the breeze about this stuff

If your hesitant to go 'cause you don't know anyone just call out my name...
" HEY PADDLEON!!!"
I'm always very easy to talk to and hang out with

I don't know anyone either!
But I will know alot of these folks by nights end.

Jay,

Hope to see you tomorrow. We have a good meeting planned, this will be our last indoor meeting until November. All meetings from May to October will be fishing trips at locations across the island which we will announce tomorrow. But here is a quick sneak peak , rumor has it first three trips of year will be Jamaica Bay, Pt Lookout and Manhasset Bay
. The trips in fall will most likely be at East End locations.

All are welcome tomorrow.

John

Greetings PaddleOn and Kayak Fishing Brethren!
I speak for the whole club when I say that we are excited to meet all newcomers tomorrow. Before even wetting my paddle this season (although we have a fair amount of Hobie owners as well), I have learned a book's worth of knowledge from some of our own old salts in the club. I look forward to meeting you tomorrow!

I actually made it down to a meeting :)

Folks...I think this was a really great group of people
Nice club they have going and I have to admit I came away thinking I need to join and be a part of them. And I will join

This is a good thing.
A very friendly bunch and the only person I knew when I got there was RPSURF from meeting John and his wife at the Noreast Bash a few months back

I left feeling like I had made a bunch of new friends and people I want to hang out and fish with.

I was very impressed by the "safety" aspect they stressed.Being well dressed and prepared for the water.Wearing your PFD at all times.
NOT wearing an inflatable type!!!!( I agree 100% on that inflatable type PFD.When you go over there is "ZERO" time to think about inflating something!!!You need a PFD that floats you from the first second...

Great to see wader drytop combo shown as well as drysuits being brought out and passed around so people can see /feel and understand.

Hooper...
give us a link to that guy you had your drysuit made.
Nice meeting you

I've know Elizabeth O'Connor for 10 years. She taught me how to roll my whitewater yak( in 20 minutes ...and then taught me over the next year or so how to roll the **** thing 5 other ways!!)and from her I learned more about paddling than any other person I've ever met.
I had not seen Elizabeth in quite a few years

and realized I miss her and the passion she brings with her.
A good down to earth human being and someone I respect and am glad to call my friend!I'll not allow so much time to pass again.
I'll post a link to her website tomorrow.

My drysuit was made on the West Coast by OS Systems. They make very high quality dive suits, breathable drysuits, drytops and waders with all sorts of options like reinforced knees, elbows, neoprene covers over the latex gaskets, color options etc. There's nothing like made in the USA quality. Their local contact is Frank Copren, FCOPREN58 (at) aol.com (Can't get the email address to post correctly just replace with the @ sign). He's located in Islip and can also repair all types of drysuits. Frank is a great guy and will work with you to be sure you get a suit that fits right even if it requires custom sizing.

Hi Ed,

Sorry ya feel that way. I was there too and heard the "Anywhere there's water" but I don't think it was exactly "smug". At least not intended that way. Of course comments can be interpreted in different ways by different people. Maybe it's because I know her fairly well and have taken a couple of classes with her. She runs classes all over South Shore bays, rivers, Long Island Sound, upstate, out of state, indoor pools and the ocean off Democrat Point (if the students have the skills). So, in a literal sense, the "Anywhere there's water" is accurate. She has the skills and is a great teacher, probably the best on Long Island. When you have time look over her website and you'll be amazed.

Anyway I'm done looking for flounder now that the bass season has started. Flounder fishin' shouldn't be difficult but it has been a challenge lately. Good luck out there.

I agree with Hooper.Having known Elizabeth for over 10 years I know it was not ever meant to come off as a "smug" response. This is a good person who has brought more to the sport than any other 10 people I know put together.

Sorry you took it that way Ed.

You have me wondering if some of my own responses to people come off differently than they are meant.I find whenever I tell someone I kayak and they ask:
"Where do you take a kayak around here?"
I always answer ( non smugly I hope):
"We live on an Island!Wherever there is water..."

And that is how I feel.Wherever there is water you can kayak. You can enjoy the float...the relaxation of being so close to the liquid.
And you can teach it!
Wherever there is water is where we go :)
