Mytiju...if you scroll back through the archives, their were a few threads by Togmaster and Rodbuilder on what size tip should be used when fishing many of these areas.

For the bight, when fishing water to 80ft, go with a 11-12 tip.

Highlands reef, you can use the sizes mentioned also since the majority of the fishing will be in waters 50-65 feet.

When fishing waters such as New Grounds and 17 fathoms, you should use 12-14 tip rod, with a 13 tip the best all around size, especially if you have to use a heavy sinker.

The newer MB1143F blanks have a somewhat thinner inner wall, so what may have been used in the past, must be taken up one tip size. The length should be from 7'3" to 7'6" depending on how long a foregrip you are comfortable with.

I got the blank and the 11 tip( for an allpurpose action) that had been said in those previous threads left the rod pretty long and light. Is anything coming off the butt? Just want to know b4 the first cut is made.

Cutting the butt

Myti the butt won't need to be cut. But if you are a short armed person you may want to cut some off the butt section to be able to pass the rod across your body which can be a pain having the butt so long. So my suggestion is to make the rod 7'4" and cut from the tip size 11. Then measure it to the butt after your tip is on to make sure the meaurement is correct. If it is to long then you may trim smoe off the butt end to give you the correct leght you feel comfortable with. You can always take off the rear if need be. But make sure the tip is 100%.

#11 Tip

I had my rod brought down to the #11 tip and 18" to the bottom of the reel seat. Measuring in at 7'4". I went with a very small OD tapered 10" foregrip.

Used it yesterday. No monsters but 10 minutes into the day I had two fish at 5lbs.

I started to think that this rod was more of a tog magnet then a fishing rod.
