The little javascript pop-up box on the boating forum - that I can live with. It's related to boating, at least. But the ad should rotate - seeing the same ad every time becomes a nuisance.
You could put them in other forums too - they take no time to load - fly stuff for the flyfishing forum, surf gear for the surf forum - but it had to be done smart, with things that could really benefit fishermen - not just run-of-the-mill revenue ads.
The full page redirect isn't gonna fly, George. Dump it before it does damage

Users will see each add only once and personally I don?t fell that it?s too intrusive. That?s not every time they visit, just once. We are also very selective as to what we accept for advertising, and we will only show items that we feel our users will be interested in. We have turned down numerous run of the mill ads in the past and we have no intention of ever running them.
As you can imagine the overhead on this site is enormous as we employ one full time programmer, and a part timer along with 16-editors covering 5-states and we maintain the site across 4 web servers. We fully support the web cam ? with a new one coming soon ? and we spend numerous hours each week on the phone providing tech support. All of this takes money and we will continue to explore potential revenue streams to support it.
The full page redirect has been found to be very effective and it?s employed by many major websites. It?s no different than an ad you hear on the radio or see on TV or even read in a magazine, and hopefully the majority of our visitors understand that. Beacuse we need them to support our advertisers, just as they do in our print edition.

Keep up the good work George!
Come on guys this is the best fishing site out there. And to be such of course it costs money. Big whoop you see an ad once and its gone. Maybe youll even like the stuff advertised. Not only is this site the best fishing site out there but I consider it the best web site, worthy enough to be my home page! Where else can you get updated fishing reports like this? You know where? NOWHERE thats where. So quit complaining, suck it up and be happy for what we have here. Keep up the good work Mr.Scocca, keep up the good work!

I agree also! I get barraged by Orbitz etc on AOL so I have no problem with a single ad a day if thats what is decided by those that foot the bills here. This is a great site and I have learned tons in the last few months!
