I was out near the Oregon with some friends from work, trying to chum for big bluefish. I did not catch a single bluefish, but I had schools of small Mahi (< 5lbs) swimming around the boat. I put out a small hook with chum on it and promptly caught one, for a positive ID.

Little ones

They are starting to show on pots inshore around 20 NM now. I have not seen them inside that as of yet.
I found only schoolies (real small, like 5-8 lbs) so far hanging around some pots South of Block over the past weekend.
Some bigger ones are showing outside 40 fthms.

I WAS BLUE FISHING CLOSE TO THE TOWER AND I TOUGHT I SAW A FALSE ALBIE IN THE SLICK. I SENT OUT A SPEARING AND LANDED A 5LB MAHI. THERE WERE MANY OF THEM APPEARING THROUGHOUT THE DAY. WE LANDED ABOUT 8 OF THEM, ONLY KEEPING 2. THE WATER WAS GREEN BUT I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE MAHI TAKE THE SPEARING IN THE SLICK. THE AMBROSE TOWER IS AN UNDERESTIMATED FISHING LOCATION. IT IS A HUGH PIECE OF STRUCTURE LOCATED IN APPROX. 100FT OF WATER. I HAVE LANDED MAHI, SMALL TUNA, LARGE SEABASS, BLUE SHARKS, AND EVEN AN ESTIMATED 250LB HAMMERHEAD. TRY BLUE FISHING THE TOWER AND BE PREPARED FOR WHATEVER MAY COME ALONG.

I'd really appreciate an update and more information on fishing at Ambrose. Thaat seems like a lot of good action for a spot so close in. I have a 23 footer, so almost all of the far out places are off limits for me. Any extra info would be MUCH appreciated

Exercise caution and prudence near the tower as this is the apex of three primary shipping lanes and when ships are passing (especially outbound) their wakes can be fairly dangerous.
