Any of You Guys know what is the right transducer to use on a Lorance unit in salt water ? Ive heard 8 degree, 20 degree..does it matter ? Is it some other degree? Thanks.

If you are in water less than 100' go with the 20 degree,it will give you a broader view,over that go with the 8 degree.

Deep water use an 8 degree. 20 will too wide for deep water.

Transducer

I have a Lowrance X85 and before I bought it I contacted them on the web. Their reply was to go with the 20 degree transducer in water up to 200 ft.
Contact them and see if the reply is the same-it was 2yrs. ago. Hope this helps.
P.S. You must remember, in shallower waters, you will be seeing very little with an 8 degree transducer!

The majority of depth is what is needed to be decided.
8 degree cone will have a foot print of 14 ft at 100 feet.
28 ft at 200
42 ft at 300.
If you are bottom fishing it is more important to see what is directly under the boat versus what is around you that can't be reached. Personal preference prevails.
