Anyone have an opinion about the differences between the Loomis GL2, GL3 and IMX blanks. I am looking at a Loomis Mag Bass for light tackle fluking/bucktailing and am wondering if the $50 price steps are worth it.

Hi,

They are all good blanks. Usually the more expensive series are more sensitive, lighter in weight, thinner in diameter and more easily broken (durability). The more expensive blanks are newer generations of graphite. You get a bigger bang for your buck.

The above paragraph usually applies to the other blank companies also.

Gl2 are plenty sensative and are more durable than the others.Higher modulas graphite like GL3&GLX you give up durability, there lighter and thinner wich means they use less graphite in them. How light do you really need a blank? If I were to by loomis I would go with the older Gl2.

Sorry Neil didnt see you gave the answer already glad we agree.

Most of my light saltwater rods are GL3's. Mostly because they I find the GL2's too whippy at the tip.

The difference in money between GL2 and the GL3 I feel is worth it. The Differnce between the GL3 and IMX , to me is not.

The GL2s from 6-7 years ago we my favorite , but cant find any.

Hi,

Which ever G Loomis rod you buy it will be a winner. They are designed to be very sensitive BUT extra sensitivity usually means giving up some durability. Treat the rod properly and it will return many hours of fish catching fun!
