I saw this pic on another forum and to me it appears to be a longfin mako, which are protected. There is no full view of the pec fins which would tell me right away, but perhaps somebody here with a bit of identification experience can tell. I don't want to bust the guy's chops, but if it is a longfin, I want to PM him and tell him to take the pics off in order to save a headache.

The year of the picture

Hi Gama was the picture taken before the reg;s changed or just recently ?
that would be a big short fin mako but if you read my post below on the 545lbs shortfin mako they can get that big.
From the picture it is hard tell?

I think it is a short fin ?

Here is an example of how you can mis-identify a species if all you do is see one characteristic.
Look at how long the left pectoral fin is, on this mako. The pectoral looks to long for a shortfin mako. But it is not swept back like a longfin mako's pectoral fin.
Look at the head, the relatively small black eye and the white chin area. This is a shortfin mako.

Seems like there hiding the fin

Funny but it looks like they are hiding the fin in every picture plus some were blured out. Here youcould see the fin.
Looks like short to me.

They all have a place

the rod holders are wild but if your trolling or using down riggers you need diffrent angles on a small boat. But yes i think they got every angled covered. Must lose a knot off the top end

I think you're right TM. Also, when I look carefully at the pic where he is sitting on the pec fin, it is not long enough to be a long fin. I once had an 800 pounder get tangled in a line of fish traps down in Costa Rica. The pec fins went from my abdomen to the ground...

Rod Holders

The rod holders are setup for KITE FISHING .

If you notice most of the rod holders are grouped together,
this is the "trick" way to rig them for kite fishing down south.

I must have missed this one. these are great shots. Based on my experence they all appear to be short fins. In addition the odds of getting a long fin in area other than the deep canyons is very rare.
