I was wondering if you guys could give me the long/lat or the general area they are in to some of these spots. Im having trouble locating them on are charts.

Butterfish Hole
The Fingers
The Banana
The MudHole
19 Fathom Bank
Little FishTail
24 Fathom Bank
The Horns
The Fish Tail
The Dip

I got these locations out of a book i bought called "tuna", its by Capt. Bill Smith. He lists Loran #s but i don't know how to convert them to long/lat. If somebody knows how to do that that would be great also.. Thanks guys.

Air,
The butterfish hole and the horns are south of Montauk. The fish tail and the dip are in block canyon. There are three or four "mudholes" which one are you loooking for? I can'r help you with the rest and I can't give you lat/lon, since I'm still a loran guy.

Simple Solution....buy a loran. You can get them cheap used from people with older boats. Then mark the spots on the GPS.

P.S. I would never follow someone elses lat/long unless you plot them on a chart and verify them.

Get a chart, there is over 100 wrecks, reefs etc. marked on them. Also while your running if you should break down, wouldn't you want to know exactly where you are.By looking at your numbers on your loran/GPS and putting them to work on your chart it will show you 'X' where you are. It also helps you set up your shark drift. You don't go out there and stop right on the wreck.Depending on wind/drift direction you adjust your boat to start your slick to approach the wreck.

It is nice to ask before doing. This is smart. My advice is, although a chart is a start, a through understanding of offshore navagation, as well as inshore is of utmost importance. Your electronics are even more sophistacated, takes years to master. Navagation is a learned trade.

*My advice was improper, a map is a chart, and a fishing pole is a fishing rod. I stand corrected by others.

Good luck, and be glad you have electronics and not the old days w/ compass @ stopwatch.
