I am going out this Friday on a friends boat for Tuna. As I have always fished for Tuna on charters, I do not have any coordinates or locations on where to go. I am leaving out of Shine**** inlet. Can anyone give me some coordinates on where they fish? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We will be leaving from Shine**** inlet around 6:00 am returning 6-7:00 pm. Boat is a 31 Albemarle with fuel for at least 200 mile round trip. Boat travels at 30mph in 2-4 foot seas.

ajocpa,

How much time do you plan on spending for this outing? Will this be a leave early in the morning, come back at the end of day type thing, or are you planning on spending the night out in the deep? If it will be just a day trip, what type of boat will you be fishing on, what kind of range does it have, what speed does it cruise at, what is the earliest you think you can leave, and what time do you have to be back at the dock by?

Hey AJ You may be better off reading some reports and getting a temp charts from Roffs before you burn alot of fuel. As mike stated you doing a over nite? what is your rage and where are you leaving from? Till we get this info it will be hard to put you in the right direction? Read the report section in the offshore reports to find out where the bite is? The tails and dip seem to be the spot now for offshore but if your coming out of like Jersey I hope you have alot of fuel?

ajocpa,

Sorry, I think you answered most of my questions, I didn't see it the 1st. time reading it, unless you edited it with type boat, range, etc. Did you? Curious, maybe I'm losing my mind. Anyway, I have not been out that way in a while and reports are scarce. I have heard of some tuna along the 25 fathom curve taken on the troll, but that's a couple of days old now and that was a little west of you, around the 400 line. If I were going tomorrow, and had no good reports to go by, I would make a heading for the Coimbra, drop my lines in at the 20 fathom curve and troll out. The plan would be to troll to the Comibra, then head NE along the edge until I got to the fingers around 100/625 then head north again. That is a troll that should take you through the day. Bear in mind that this is only a plan, and more often then not the plan changes. You have to look around for life, listen on the radio to see if anything is happening near you, etc.

First Time Out

AJ,
The Fish Tails and the Dip MAY be your best bet this time of year...They have been producing lately, although spotty reports came in last week. If I were you, I would head just about due south directly towards the dip, and put my lines a little past the 50 fathom line which are called "the flats". Continue trolling south towards the 100 fathom line, which is the DIP.. You can continue trolling south, or head east towards the Tails, or west towards the Hudson...Check Rutgers or Roffers, or SST for a temp chart...Look for some temp breaks....

For a day troll, I usually like to leave the docks at 2:30 am and monitor my radar for bouys and high fliers.. That gets me there in time to put my lines in for the morning bite.. But some guys don't like running at night. I don't mind it.

This time of year, the inshore 20 - 40 fathom curves are extremely spotty, so I would go all the way as I suggested.
Good luck and have some fun out there. I'll probably out there as well, so give the Venture a shout on 19 or 68.

ajocpa, I agree with Venture, the "inshore" tuna bite has been, very, very spotty, esp. to the west where I am. If you can leave early and head for the deep like he said so that your lines are in the water at 1st. light, that would be your best bet. If your gonna be leaving at 6:00am with a planned return of 7:00pm, I wouldn't make that run. F.Y.I., I did an inshore troll thing yesterday, way to the west of you, put in about 5 hours of it and had False Albies. They can be fun on light stuff, but that is not what I was after. Spent the afternoon sharking, they make nice baits.
