I am curious to know if anyone has ever had any luck using live eels in the area of the Western Sound. I have used them with much success in the rips of Montauk (charter), but I haven't tried them on the sound. They are available at my local tackle shop this year, and I was thinking of trying them out.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Eels work all year!

I know people say not to use them early, but I've done it. We've slammed early bass off Montauk with eels. Not 6 inchers either, but 9-12" eels. People were shocked at the cleaning station when we said we used eels. They are expensive, though, and clams or bunker will work well.

I was outright called a liar when we brought in two small mahi last summer and told people we caught them 17 miles off on shark rigged mackerel. Don't believe anything people say won't work. Try it yourself.
