Lilco info

I haven't fished it yet this winter, so I have no report. However, here is some basic info. Don't know if you need directions either. You will need to park at Crab Meadow Beach in Northport. If your fishing into the night, you'll need to park outside the gate, that is, if they are locking it in the winter (I'm not sure). Instead of turning into the lot, just drive straight until you can drive no further and park. As long as there is some indication that you are a fisherman, in or on your vehicle, you will have no problem whatsoever. Then start the trek through the parking lot and west down the beach. It really isn't that far but in waders and winter gear, it certainly will feel it. I'd guess 3/4 of a mile tops. You can start at the bank right up at the outflow (right at the waterfall)and work your way out onto the long sand bar. Be VERY careful on the bar, as it can meander, making dropoffs sudden. The current can also be rather strong, so watch your footing near the edge of the bar. Bring plenty of plastics and plenty of the old standby's for light tackle fishing. For most fish in this spot this time of year, I'd personally recommend perhaps a light/medium 7 footer, 10-12 pound test(if using mono)20-30 pound leader, which you might want to eliminate altogether if no strikes occur, and tie direct. Hope that is some of what you needed

10" rubber is bigger than some of the fish you'll catch. But there's always the possibility of herring being in the plume and bigger bass chowing on them, so it wouldn't be a waste of space to bring them.

Normally, you'll want 3/4 oz bucktails or jigheads with say 4" plastic trailers.

Guys , jpfsurf is right.
Since 9/11 the facilities that provide power are under pressure to increase their security for obvious reason. The WILL prosecute anyone to full extent of the law who is cought on their property.Plus by going on Lilco's property you can cause everyone to lose access to the whole area .So ,please ,use your head (and stay warm)

I work at the Northport Power station.(LILCO)
You can fish as long as you stay away from the Fenced in Property.
DO NOT Attempt to climb over the fence to fish the canal area in the Back.
Definetly will be Trespassing on private property.

As long as you stay on the Beach area out in front along the Outflow you shouldnt have a problem.

Also Be very Carefull if you decide to use waders along the outflow!
One slip and its all over!

And most of all NO Poaching!!!
Please Catch and Release...
The DEC is on site when you least expect it....
