Guess I'm showing my age on this but I was told by the originator and 1st owner of the bait shack at the Huntington pwr station ramp (stacks)In Northport that when they built the pwr plant LILCO promised Huntington it would provide a fishing pier off the beach into the sound to appease the town.He always complained that it was one of the reasons he started that bussiness there. He has sadly passed away and I always thought it would be a great thing for the area.I see now that a vets org is planing a club house there,Its a big streach of shore line.I am sure both could be a possibility.Just wondering if any one out there recalls this and why it never came to be ??

I can see the desire to have one, but I can't see it working out too well. The pier would be constantly battered from November through April. Add to that the fact that the homeowners in the selected location (Ashroken most likely) would have an absolute cow!

piping plovers

have infested the area and as you know they are more important than fishermen or veterans and have more clout than Asharoken residents! from a homeland security perspective, the whole area - ramp, soccer fields, channel, etc should be closed to keep the plant and tank farm safe from terrorism. where else can you get close enough to touch a power plant?
