Hey guys, i have had the new boat in the water since the beginning of march, and along with it came a brand new fish finder and transducer....i have taken a few rides out by the fire island lighthouse over the past week, just to get out, but havent really dropped a line....every time that i stop there though, in a few certain spots, the finder goes crazy, saying that there are fish everywhere.....do you guys think this is reading true, or is there something that would cause this????....i dont think the schoolies are in that far yet, but it is a few spots that usually hold fish....i am confused by this

I have had the same thing happen to me, but only when the boat is rocking and rolling.Sometimes the transducer pops out of the water and it will give you a false reading. Also by jettys there is alot of current which in turn carries alot of sediment, which also gives you a false reading.

ezjp...thanks....i found that too, and thats what i thought it was the first time, but the other day it was dead calm over there, and i had been stopped for a few minutes, just enjoying the weather, before it started to light up....i dont know, i have a feeling your 100% right though thanks!

If you get the same reading every time only in certain spots it could be turbulence from some bottom structure.
Drop a crab done.
