LEADER MATERIAL>>>
CLIFF....thats a broad question....standard leader material which you see at tackle shops in 47 inch straight lengths are usually made by DuPont...it is stiffer then the Perlon leader material that you will also find at tackle shops. When tying hooks for blackfish, porgies, fluke, flounder, we use the stiffer Dupont material. For striped bass fishing, and seabass fishing, we find regular coiled leader material just fine..their are numerous brands on the market from ande through triplefish. As far as what pound test, the general rule is usually, you try to use 20 for porgies and flounders, 30 for fluke and seabass, and 40 for blackfish. We use anywhere from 20-60 for striped bass depending on the area, conditions, among other things. At one time we used to use 50 for codfish, but they are long gone from these parts.... The bottom line is that you try to use a leader material that either does not wrap around your main line easy, and strong enough for the fish you might encounter....
