I WAS LOOKING AT A 9 FT LAMIGLASS SPINNING ROD RATED FOR 1-3 OZS PLUGS. I WAS WONDERING HOW IT WOULD THROW A 3 1/2 OZ PLUG. WOULD THE EXTRA 1/2 OZ MAKE THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE. IM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING A 9 FT ROD THAT WILL THROW 3 1/2 PLUGS. ANY COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS?

I have a 2 pc. 9' Ugly Stik that is rated for 1 - 4 oz. I have also had more than 4oz. on it. It seems best when I use 2 -2.5 oz.

I use a Penn 6500 with it (17lb. Easy Cast Stren mono line.)
Seems fine to me.

BIGSILK, imho. i think most rods are overrated.as in youre case 1-3.where the sweet spot is probly 2-21/2.though this yr lami did come out with a 9ft that is able to handle 1-4.its a 1084.this rod is new and probly hard to find.otherwise you may have to go to a 10fter.email lami and they should be able to help you. rainshaow 1089 rated 1-6 if you can have someone build it.its 8 -10 in
good luck.

Suggestion

I recently picked up a two piece 9 foot TICA. Tica makes the 9 footer in two flavors: one is stiffer than the other and is rated for heavier stuff; thin, cork wrapped handles---graphite blank, gray finish...looks like a Lami/Loomis. For $60 bucks or so it might be your ticket.

The Lamiglas surf rods and Tica rods that I've used are both very stiff, and I would think should be able to throw 1/2 oz. over their ratings without a problem. Both cast very well.

I'm not sure if we're supposed to give out links to comercial websites, but IBEW I would be glad to give you the link to the Tica sellers website if you want to contact me directly.

Or, I think I did a Google search on Tica to find the web-store. I called in the order and they were very professional and prompt. I think the Tica rod is a great value.

I'm assuming that the 9' Lami is one of the XS 91 series(black lami). That rod would struggle with over 3 oz. If your talking about the 9' Arra XSRA 1083 forget it, it won't do 3 oz. I'd play it safe and go with the 10' 10 MS or 101 MS. That'll toss 3+ OK.

ticas

I picked up my Tica at the Suffern show. I chatted up the TICA rep and he directed me to a few guys selling their rods at the show. The are usually available at the big auction stops but, if you're like me, you'd probably want to handle one to check the action. In 9 foot Tica makes a couple of spinners. I picked up the "softer" version. E-mail me for the model #'s.

The lamiglass 108 1M will throw 3.5 oz if necessary. the 1L might not. but, in order to be safe, I would go with a Lami 120 1L or 120 1M. both great rods. the 1M is a little bit more stout. the 1L, can definitly do it tho.

Depends on the rod you are talking about.

Which 9 footer? The XRA 1083 will throw 3 oz in a pinch. I was tossing a bluefish bomb this past summer with it.

You might wanna check out the Batson 1088 or 1089 if you want to build a rod.
