I'm looking for a spinning surf rod to use on both the north and south shores. I want to be able to throw 1-3 oz. lures and possibly live eels. I e- mailed to lamiglas and they suggested the xs10ms. Its a 2 piece 10' rod rated for 2-4 oz and 14-30 lb. line. Do you think this is a good choice, other choice? If its rated for 2-4 oz. will it be inappropriate for 1 oz lures? Help appreciated as always. Thanks.

Good stick

I have the xs96mhs just don't like the 2 piece.if you have room for a 1 piece get the xs101ms.same stick just 1 piece, you'll like that better then the 2 piece. This allso depends on what reel your gonna match her up wit.

you could also check out the rainshadow /batson/ rods the 1087 or the 1088. pretty cheap and good quality.though the xra1204 would definatly be the stick.rated at 7/8 to 2 1/4.the 120-1l is a little stiff for the 1oz imho.

1201L

IF YOU CAN SWING THE ONE PIECE CUSTOM DO IT.I THINK SURFEDITOR IS RIGHT ABOUT THE BLANK.SO THOSE XS RODS MUST BE PRETTY GOOD.THE ROD WILL EVEN GO DOWN AND THROW 7"REDFINS,6"BOMBERS,AND 5"YO-ZURIS.OF ALL THE RODS MENTIONED SO FAR THE 1201L 1PIECE WILL GIVE YOU THE WIDEST RANGE.

Batson/Rainshadow are only available as blanks, so you would have to spend about another $150 or so to have it built. The end price would be about what you'll pay for an off-the-shelf XS10MS. Plus, warranty coverage on a custom is limited to replacement of the blank only, so you'd have to pay again (unless the builder gave you a separate warranty on his workmanship) if it broke to have it wrapped. The advantage to having a custom wrapped on a 120 1L as opposed to the store-bought XS10MS is better components, thread colors of your choosing, and placement of the reel seat where it's comfortable for you instead of comfortable for Joe Average.

Rainshadow has 10' blanks too, but IMO they're too fast a taper to make a good all-around rod. Try working a pencil popper with a fast taper rod, then do it again on a Lami 120 1L and you'll see the difference. And, moreover, feel it in yer forearms.
