Got a chance to view the making of artifical reefs at the lake. DEC and LI bassmasters did a great job. There are 9 different locations around the lake. It peeked my interest because my grandson just moved into the area. I do mostly salt water fishing but for quickie trips this should be great. Thanks George for giving me the heads up. Tight Lines, Lou

Lou............what depth did these trunks get put at?
Or rather how far off the shore?

I read that 150 trunks in 9 bundles were dropped.

I fish from a kayak and will be out there doing a little exploring for future referance:)

If all goes well a few years down the road may produce some nice fish.

Newsday and/or RJ on that OTHER website said they were placed at about 15' I suppose one could paddle that depth all the way around trying to find them, but like we said in the FA about not worrying about hitting a friendly jet, "big sky, little bullet."
Unless DEC draws a map, it will take quite some time to locate more than a few of them.

The DEC has a map and GPS #'s for the location of all the stumps. You can get a copy by calling 631-444-0280.

The stumps added much needed structure to a lake that was almost void that kind of cover.Bass should flock to them.

dec reef's

Thanks for the pictures and maps and GPS numbers!!!! This lake is under appreciated, it has both Large and smallmouth bass, Walleye and Tiger Muskelunge(spelling) and assorted pan fish. I've been fishing at nights the past few years and ALWAYS caught something. We even got the Walleye's on spinnerbiats at night!! Still haven't caught a Tiger yet LOL. Is the stocking program finished for both the Walleye and Tigers? I have often thought how much better the lake would be with some weed cover! Lily pads in the corner with the restaurent would be a great spot! Does the DEC have any authotity in this ares?
Tight lines!!!

I only fished the lake once in or around 1994 and let myself get skunked. I too would love to see some pads but I think their limit in terms of depth confines them to the very perimeter (?)
Got used to fishing east Nassau lakes but if I can find the stumps (just because I posted the map doesn't mean I'll find the **** things!) I would definitely give it a shot again.

Tigers

From what I have heard the tigers have died out.Has'nt been one caught in quit a long time, this is just from what I've heard. The Dec is very involved in this lake,Last year the DEC & L.I.B transplanted lilly's.Allthough they did not take,:( For reasons unnkown.LIB has a 5 year permit to Do upcoming projects to the lake,Just like the one we just witnessed:),Maybe a smallie stocking.:)

I have only fished this lake a handful of times. But why don't weeds take hold there? Is it that there isnt enough shallow water around the shore line? Or flats? Where do the bass spawn? I saw that alot of the shoreline drops off quickly to at least 8 feet.Along with spawning areas,no place for the fry to hide from all those stunted perch.I bet the walleyes are having a feast....

Carp or the soil

There is no confirmation that the carp in the lake are grass carp, but if they are that would be a good start,Another big question is the soil on the bottom of the lake.Last year I did notice a good amount of vegatation as in the past,Allthough the lake level was Down all last year. There is some good amount of shore line cover we just need the islands water table to rise.We are above average on rain fall. This lake is real weird to understand & for me to explain inwriting. For more on lake ronko go toLake history
