Hey guys, the sinking ship of Starbucks is making another round of layoffs and I as an Assistant Store Manager being higher paid than the rest of my peers will most likely get the axe.

I've never been so dissatisfied with my job and the way my company is treating me until now. What should I do? I have a few years in management experience and have one more year until completing a BS in Small Business Management.

LoL I have been laid off a lot. Used to do contract IT work so it was just part of the game.

Almost everytime I landed a much better assignment or perm job after getting the axe.

Get your resume together in Word and PDF format. Start writing good cover letters and think about where you might want to work.

Start there.

If you get laid off, take whatever severance they offer or file for unemployment benefits. Make sure they don't make you sign anything on your way out.

Take some time off to fish.

Also, be very weary of the BS offers you get if you sign up through Monster or Careerbuilder. Almost 90% of the stuff on those sites are scams. Try Craigslist instead.

I found my new gig through either monster or careerbuilder.

Joe,
I'm off the week before memorial day, you going to be around?

I'm not saying you can't find a job there. I am just saying that most of the stuff that comes to you from the site are scams and you just need to be careful. It's sad that scammers take advantage of desperate people in that way.

File for unemployment immediately.....speed up your degree process and re-invent yourself.....I know it's easy to say...but these things work out for the best sometimes.....Unfortunately you don't get a million dollars when starbucks lets you go like Jim Donald (CEO STARBUCKS) did....though Jim was worth it and did a great job but could not predict the U.S. downturn...I know him from another business and he is a brilliant man.

Don't feel bad you have plenty of company.- All Business owners are hurting right now, much less our employees. Heed the above observations and take positive action. You will land on your feet if you perservere. Good Luck!!!:) All will be OK.

I agree with most of the above advice but having personal experience several years ago, I would suggest the following:

Put your resume together IMMEDIATELY and utilize every avenue you can: Monster, career builder, NY Times Classifieds, etc.

Do NOT "take time off" from the job hunt. Stay in the hunt!

I agree with the "reinvent yourself" to some extent. I would suggest spending some of your time off reading self-improvement books. I know people with MBA's who have never read "How to be Rich" by J Paul Getty or "Think and Grow Rich" or "How to Win Friends & Influence People". Those, and others, will help you with your personal skills and make you more marketable.

Check out websites of companies that you have an interst in. Many of them have job opportunities links and you can forward your resume's to them directly.

The economy is certainly tightening but there are still opportunities out there. The harder you work to find them, the better off you'll be.

I also agree with Mike that you can take advantage of this opportunity to do even BETTER for yourself. The company I worked for before the one I currently work with screwed me over 10 years ago and motivated me to go out and find another job. BEST THING that ever could have happened to me!

Good luck and keep plugging!

Thats so weird.
I ran into my Cousin early today and he also is an Asst Manager for Starbucks and he is feeling the crunch too.
Its only a matter of time.

Sorry to hear that.
Take this time while you have a job to look for a job.
DONT WAIT!!!!

He wasn't talking to you Skip. :)

Yeah, I meant labor day. I'm off from 8/23 to 9/2, but I'm committed to some things on the 23, 24 and 27, so any other day you can make it, might be doable.
