Was hoping that somebody could offer some advice on surf fishing jones west end #2. I have fished there over the last few years with moderate success but I know for sure that there are some sharpies that have lots of success there. What tides are best there? Which areas, the front open beach? along the jetty? or the actually inlet side?(I believe the inlet side is called sunset beach?) Anyway, somebody told me that there is an old construction dock there that holds fish? Is it by the coast guard station? I would appreciate any suggestions or useful information on fishing this area.

Well WE2 has a ton of structure so i'll outline some of it as the place is no big secret and is always mobbed, so here goes. The construction dock is to the north (right) of the foot path. If you take the path from the lot it's about 200 yards up the beach, strong current, never done well there. On the way to the construction dock is a point w/ a moderate rip...usually can pick up something there, but always mobbed. Best fished when most people are snuggled away. The jetty can be great. September saw frequent albie blitzes (had over 25 one afternoon, left after I literally melted the washers on my penn 704). The inlet side is decent as is the pocket with bucktails. Outgoing seems to be best for me, but some friends swear by incoming. The moral is, try it at optimum times, ie. few hours b/f sunrise with a moving tide or after sunset. Everything works at one point or another so it's hard to say fish here with this lure at this tide. Just throw the bag and you'll figure out what they're keying on. Keep an eye on the water and see what bait is around and match that. Oh, and work your lures close to the rocks. Good luck. The shad still there?

Shad Question

Last Sunday morning there was shad in the inlet at the beginning of the jetty.

I've heard there's shad galor around the construction dock but not much on them.
