Hey everyone, I am new to this board. It seems great, and has tons of info. My question is- This weekend I will be going fishing at Jones Beach Field 6. I don't go much, so I am wondering what kind of bait or lures might work best there. Also what time does Jones beach open? I went last year w/ my freind and did very well using clams. But that was a year ago and I was wondering if anyone had anymore helpful advice. Thanks for the help.

They ALL work (at times)

Bait? You can't go wrong with clams.
Worms work well too!

Lures? Daytime? I suggest tin.
Poppers work too, they just require a tad more energy. Pencil Poppers? Even more.

Get there at false dawn. Fish until it gets hot. When the lot gets full, it's tiome to swim. You don't need the "night fishing permit" once it gets light. You don't have to pay for parking until 8 or 9 AM! If you're in before the booth opens, you're in for free!

The further East you walk, the better it gets.

Walk far enough, and you get to a "clothing optional" area. It can get quite scenic at times!

Thanks Flounder! I will try the clams. With worms should I get blood or Sand? And how early do you reccomend me get there? I was thinking around 6 AM. That "clothing optional area" sounds like a good time, but I think I could only manage field 6 this time. Thanks for the advice, and any other replies are appreciated.

Jones Beach? Head South young man.

Take any N/S parkway in Nassau County. The Meadowbrook or Wantagh Parkway. Go until you see a big body of water called the Atlantic Ocean. You have found Jones Beach. There is a great invention down there. There are pieces of wood stuck in the side of the road that when the letters are placed on them in the correct order you can actually tell where you are and what parking field you are near.

Retiring soon

Ok lightdrag, plan to retire
within a year and just lining
up the ducks. Glad somebody
responded. And, thanks for
the young-man, I'll take that
one as a compliment.
By the way, the latest on
the water tabloid gave me some nice insight about Rhody
fishing. I have fished all
the author mentioned, but never at night. That'll change.

I would arrive at 5 AM.
SANDworms will outproduce bloods there.
The bait shop would tell you that.

For the guy who couldn't find Jones Beach ...
Take Meadowbrook Parkway SOUTH.
Hard to miss it, what with all the big signs.

Excatly the info I was looking for. Thanks! Its tough because I live along the Hudson, and I really don't know what to use when I go down to Jones sometimes. Bloods work better in the river in my area, but I see that Sands are better for the ocean.
