Better late than never...The rod is too short to jig with for tuna. You want to use a 7.5 - 8 foot rod, similar to what you would use for jigging codfish as the jigs are comparable in weight. Calstar makes an excellent blank for which I don't have the model number, but it is a 9 footer which you can cut down to 7 1/2 - 8', depending on your preference. Best reel is a wide Penn 4/0 as anything heavier will just give you sore arms. If you are worried about line capacity on the 4/0, you can use 80 pound Power Pro with about 50 yards of mono spliced in on top of it.
