Because of the gas price, my trips to the coast are now limited so I decided to use my jigging techniques for bass and cod on lakers locally and it works!I started out useing yum flukes on 1 oz. jig heads in 60 to 90'in Seneca lake. First trip 3 lakers up to 8lbs. what the heck, I'll try 2oz. diamonds and 1 1/2 hopkins 7 lakers up to 10lbs. If any of you guys have lakes with lake trout, try it. I'll post picks later.

Excellent....

Great report. I have been thinking of the same thing myself. I call it cross-over fishing. Freshwater options in the salt and vice-versa. The trout seem like the perfect option for some deep-dropping jigs. I have used muskie buzz-baits in the salt for the first time last year and caught some decent stripers with them on the flats at nite.

I am glad to see someone else thinking outside the box. Please post some pictures and any other info you would care to share.

I have many ideas and options that i will be trying soon. This might be a good topic for another thread.

Fish-on....

P.s. A small pencil popper seems like another great tactic for some over-sized bucketmouths....The wheels are turning....;)

Pequod,

I assume you are from Rochester, NY. I used to use similar tackle to what you are describing to jig for Lakers right out in front of the Genessee River in about 120 feet of water. I would add a strip of cut Sucker to a 2 or 3 oz. Bucktail and it was very productive. The nice thing about being in Lake O. versus the Finger Lakes is that the Lakers are up to 25 lbs....
