A markpen thin jigging rod vs 145lb SeaBass

They mainly target at Asia, Europe, AU/NZ, rarely seen in US, I know some guys here have asked for custom made rods from their website, but I haven't heard any from report? The jigging and popping forum of deepjigging scissored out any composition from Jigging Master since it's for Japanese products only.

To my knowledge, new 2008 Power Spell 400g blank can lever up weigh of 35kg, quite a tough and strong rod.

gladwin,
Welcome aboard. :)
We welcome any introduction of products from satisfied customers.
However, our site has very strict policy not to promote products from manufacturers or dealers unless they are our sponsors.

When I fished Three Kings Island, NZ a few years ago and AG group jiggers were there on the other boat with Chris Wong.
I think they tested JM rods for their promotion and made a DVD of the trip.
The old JM blanks were famous for their lightness and strength, but most jigging blanks nowadays are lighter than old JM blanks.

How light is the new Power Spell ? Terminator looks cheaper model for beginners. What is the major difference between Power Spell and Terminator as far as rod action is concerned ?

Hi, Kilsong,

Sorry for the pictures, but as an end user of Jigging Master for years, I do find a great jump from 2004 to 2008, the blanks even just a bit lighter, but the lever weigh is from 17kg(2004) now to 35kg(200
, that's a 400g Power Spell.

Another one thing is they start to set action from a parabolic 50/50 slightly to a 45(tip)/55(grip), I have mailed to Jigging Master to mention about this, since I own 4 400g JM rods, I can easily tell the difference, their reply is that they have tested the minor time of a jig "comma" which is the bite on time, and a 55/45 may make a 450g ~500g jig stay longer at the "comma", which may have a advantage to let the larger-size fish have more willing to take a bite, and stiffer waist central will do more powerful fight job.

Their heavier rods, say 400g, 450g 500g are short but comfortable elasticity & powerful, lighter rod I use mostly Smith. I use baitcasting reels only.

Terminator has more fiberglass, but unfortunately it is discontinued, there is a saying everybody discuss about, that Terminator is made for soft-mouthed fish, such like kingfish and amberjacks, and won't tear the mouth of the fish while hooked on.

PowerSpell is built for hard-mouthed species, doggies, snappers. yep, but many anglers are still using them for kingfish and amberjacks, the only one thing is not to strike like Hulk.

gladwin,
Thanks for the detailed information. Your infomation is very helpful when choosing among JM blanks.
When I saw pictures or DVD of fighting fish with JM rods, I saw many guys use very short JM rods. Do they cut buttom sections from original blanks ?

Hi, Kilsong,

They do cut bottom to make shorter rods, the main purpose is to make the balance core just right on the dot of the reel seat, this concept is to make the weight of the reel becomes the main part of the kinetic energy while jig up the jig.

I tested the new PowerSpell since I have five of them(200g/53B 300g/50B 400g/50B 500g/50B 500g/48B), every rod is excellently balanced right on the reel seat.

If there are many fish down there, using a longer rod to jig is Okay, but if there is not so many fish, jigging with a long rod is an awful nightmare. Get sore after 3 hours, especially when jig with 400g~ 600g, 150M~180M for deep amberjacks. the DVD you saw mostly they were jigging over 150M deep, that's why they use only short rods.

thanks.

Hi, monocom

I still don't know where to buy these Powerspell rods in The United States, but I know the closest country might be Australia or New Zealand where I'd been living for couple of years. but I don;t think you can get a good price to re-import from these two countries. Mr.Liu from Jigging Master email me that they are contacting a very good dealer to introduce JM into U.S.A. But he wouldn't tell me more! He said it's a top secret, So maybe there will be available in the U.S. soon.

JM rods are very popular in both Australia(for Samsons) and New Zealand( Kingfish), say 400g~500g are very ideal for these fields.

Here is a link of some KIWI Jigging Masters fishing report in Ranfurly Bank out of East Cape N.Z. they have shot it as a DVD.

I think you will find the Terminator is made with a lower grade of carbon and the Powerspell are a higher grade carbon that is why they have such a big price differance.
The Powerspells are a real nice blank but there is nothing wrong with the Terminators at all for there price they are a great blank worth every cent. I beleive the Powerspells are as good as a number of Japanese rods. **** they are made with the same Carbon that comes from Japan.

500g JM Power Spell rods

I got 500g 4'8" and 5'2" JM Power Spell rods from JM.
Boy, 500g rods are not joke. They seem like broom sticks with thinner diameter. :) I would rate them 600g and up. I feel like I can land any tuna, even cow in 150 - 200 lbs with the rods. The rods are not light, but you can see them as serious jigging rods for big fish or heavy jigs for jigging deep. I don't know any jigging rod records over 30 kg of weight test as 500g Power Spell.
I think 300g - 400g JM Power Spell are good for our average size tuna as even 300g JM Power Spell surpass most of 500g jigging rods of other brands by weight test.
I am pretty simple guy and like to use tackles as simple as possible.
When I made some inquiries about the jigging rods, I am in awe how they are serious about making rods and every components they use and every parts of rods are accounted for and explained for.

While I am examining the rods, I get the idea the rods/blanks can be an excellent chunking or live bait rods for tuna, even for coe as the rods/blanks are super strong and very light to hold all day and easy to fight as they are parabolic action rods.
I can't wait to fight big tuna with the rods.

Actually some prefer composit to graphite while jigging and fighting.
I am going to get a Terminator rod and I'll test it myself.
