Looking for a rod to use with ABU 6500. Must be able to cast and work jigs 1.5 - 3 oz. around local bridges from a boat. I like a 7' rod. Have a great stick for 3/8 - 1.5 but just doesn't have the tip to work the heavier jigs. Also has anyone usrd the 310 gti as a casting reel?

Hi,

A Lamiglas IC 70 H is rated 3/4 to 3 oz and 15-30 # test line.

Lamiglas IC 70 MH is rated 1/2 to 2 1/2 oz lure, 12-25 # test line.
Both are 7" long. Nothing in 1 1/2 -3 oz range.

Seeker makes nice rods but in the catalog I have they don't list the lure weight range.

Check your local B & T Shop for Diawa and Ugly Stik models also.

I have not used the Penn 310 GTI. I do use ABU GARCIA 6500's and like them.

Isnt an ABBU 6500 a little small for 30 lb test?

If you're going to go with Penn try the mag 525. It's a great reel.

Yes, you are right.

Abu does make a BIG GAME reel, 6500 CT and 6500 CLT. Also a 7000 CL.

Even though these reel are rated for 17 and 20# test lines, I will top fill with 30 or 40 # test when I don't feel like holding a rod with a heavy reel on it all day.

However, if the reel breaks while fishing this way I do not blame the reel manufacturer as I feel that "I" exceeded the limits for my own pleasure.
