As posted this morning. Al Conti of Snug Harbor Marina marked the official weight at 75.4 lbs.:) Monstrous fish and it was beautiful!
I will post pictures as soon as I get them. Congratulations to Peter for catching it!

Still haven't got my pictures back from developer yet.
I' ve known Peter for a few years now and he EXCLUSIVELY fishes with eels. He keeps at least 3 lbs of eels in his bait tank onboard at all times. He uses 50lb Tuff Line braid, a Penn 560 spinning reel, St Croix rod, 6/0 Gami circle hook, w/ 50 lb Seaguar flouro leader, and either an egg sinker (1-3oz) or fishfinder w/ heavier lead. The fish was caught around 1 AM. That night he wasn't holding the rod, (as usual) it was in the rod holder AKA "Rodney". It took him 20-25 minutes to bring it in. At first when it came into the boat, He said to his fishing partner and friend Don that it was maybe a low 60+lb fish! Don told him, I think it's way better than that! Anyway they continued to fish the Block Island Fireman's Tournament, because Peter wanted Don to get a big fish to place in the tourney as well. That's the kind of guy Peter is, Unassuming, shys away from the limelight and is generous. I'm happy to call him and Don friends. Congrats again, Tom

Beautiful fish. I just find it heard to believe he fought it on that spinning rod.

I also have that 560 Slammer but mounted on a little different rod from Capt Harry in Miami. I borrowed it from a buddy when doing that Mag Bay trip. I have the 270,(5' 8" rod) read the specs.

Congrats on a great fish,
Truely a fish of a lifetime.

Anyone have any specifics on what he was using?

The article said an eel.seems like live eels, while expensive, are one of the best ways to attract the real slobs. do these fish get so big by learning to ignore anything that isn't live?
