NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS did I think that I'd sleep through my alarm and miss a great fishing trip with a great Captain on a great boat. Alas, I did today. First time for everything. My apologies to that Captain. I hope he got my voicemail so he wasn't waiting around for me too long (that wuld make me feel REALLY awful!) All was not lost, because I took another great trip on another great boat with another great Captain. Danny Swedeburg of the Island Current 2. I've been fishing with these guys for several years now, and toughh I'm certainly guilty of serial boat infidelity, there will always be a place in my heart for them. Danny and I spent a lot of time together, and once you meet him, you will learn what a great fellow he is. Did we catch fish? Yes. It was a steady pick. Were there lots of great people on board? Yes. Remember: it's still April, and porgies are all over the Western Sound, and they are chewing earlier than I've ever seen them. They are also HUGE and MUCH closer to home than tey were last year. Pool fish today was a three pound giant, and I didn't see one single fish under 12" come up! Its certainly a very good start, and I never expected to experience pre season RSA porgy fishing in the Sound this early. Beautiful weather helped to make this a wonderful trip, even tough it was a steady pick and not "drop and stick." In another week or less, the situation wiill be very different. The weather will warm the shallow waters and all porgy **** (or heaven!) will break loose (Last year I caught 71 (ORL RSA limit) on Memorial Day, and I think this year that quality of action will start much sooner than that)! And will I be there for it? Absolutely. Thank you Chris, Danny, and (of course) the Captain I slept in on (bad alarm!) You will see me too, don't worry!
