Hi all,
I'm brand new to this forum and would like a bit of input.
I recently built a Lami GLB 108 1M which I believe is rated at 3/4 - 2 1/2oz.
I originally planned to use a Abu 6500 on it,but recieved a Penn 965 as a birthday gift. Now I'm bent on putting this reel on the stick. Will it be overpowering on this blank?
The main use for it is bucktailing in the 1 to 2 oz. range.
Thanks much for any info you might have.

Gruveking,

That is an excellent blank you built on. Enjoy catching fish with it.

Put your new reel on the rod ans see how it feels in your hand.

Tie a 2 oz sinker to the line and feel how the rod reacts when you bounce the sinker on the floor.

My friends like their Penn 965's. I stay with the Abu Garcis for the less weight factor and the reels work fine for me.

Thanks for your reply Capt.
I must say ,the reel feels great on this rod,but I'm considering the GSB108 1M for the 965 and the GLB 108 1M for the 6500.Any thoughts?
Again, they're both going to be bucktailing sticks in the surf exclusively.

Gruveking,

GSB1081M butt=0.76, tip=7, wgt=6 1/2, line=30, lure=1-3

GLB1081M butt=0.69, tip=7, wgt=5, line=25, lure=3/4-2 1/4

I would consider the GSB to be heavier, stiffer tip, heavier payload.

I think I would use the 965 on the GSB rod.
