Is there another buoy south of the NA? I thought the NA was weather buoy 44025. I was looking at the chart and noticed what appears to be a second buoy. I have never noticed it but I don?t really go that way when heading offshore.

NA Buoy is the "Nantuket to Ambrose" bouy, there also the HA (Hudson to Ambrose) on around the 640ish/470ish lines the NOAA bouy lies about 10 miles northeast of the HA and 20ish(again) miles south east of the NA, atleast thats what I remember (I live in Maine now so excuse me if my distances are off) but I should be close.

Buoys, buoys and big Bertha

The best place for info is:
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Northeast.shtml

South of the 44025 lies about 225 miles of open ocean before you get to another weather buoy. The whole section of heavily fished offshore water is unmonitored for conditions.

A handful of us have been working to get another important buoy set-up somewhere near the Hudson Canyon. This would be a real-time ocean
conditions buoy.

Believe it or not there is strong support from Macoora( www.macoora.org) and fishing people and groups. The NDBC controls the buoy placement and this buoy is on their short list. Now just a matter of funding( according to Dr Hervey of NDBC).

Here is a very good Hurricane site as well to follow Bertha's path:

Actually, the Hotel Buoy (44004) is now adrift ESE about 150 miles NE of Bermuda... So we are SOL as far as that goes, so a new buoy somewhere in the canyons would be especially helpful now!

Every now and again I check in on the location postings, and it was down SE of Bermuda for a while, and it does look like its making its way back up... If this buoy is still transmitting, then why the **** doesn't someone go get it and just re-deploy it?!?!?! Isn't that cheaper than deploying a new buoy????

I would think that a better place for the buoy would be to the East of the Hudson, as the waters from Block Canyon all the way to Hydro are pretty vacant. A location around Block canyon or Atlantis may give some better averages to people looking to head south.
