Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran?s Free Fishing Charters

Found this on another site I frequent:

Hello all.

This year we are sponsoring an event for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and their families. On Sunday, June 8th, we have ten charter boats who are donating a morning charter(8-11)and an afternoon charter (1-4), and we are providing a free lunch for all participants from 11:30 to 12:30. All charters are leaving from Provincetown Harbor and are targeting striped bass.

I need your help in two ways. First and foremost, please forward or post the attachments everywhere so that the word gets out to all who might want to take advantage of this. Anyone interested should forward their applications to me, or call me directly. Secondly, I am looking for contributions for the free lunch ? the local VFW and I are talking and hopefully they will coordinate the free lunch, however, the key word is free so we will take any and all food and beverage donations. Please contact me directly on this as well.

Thanks all for your help,

Capt. Rich Wood

More Businesses Should Do This

:):)It's a TERRIFIC way of recognizing the people who have put their lives on the line for us.

MM and others,

If it's not affordable because of the smallness of your operation, why not offer a Veteran's discount? Just show up at the boat with a DD214 (Discharge paper) validating their tour of duty. (Today it could be scanned & e-mailed.) I did this for Viet Nam vets when I was chartering, and I also ran 50/50 raffles for the same group. Even though it just paid my fuel costs, etc., it made me feel like I was contributing to something very worthwhile. The proof of this was in the faces of the veterans after they landed their firsT fish. They were very appreciative.

Another advantage of doing so might be the free publicity that might be derived from such a gesture. When I did it, outdoor writer Ken Moran (a VN vet himself) from the NY Post picked up on it and gave me much publicity that I never could have afforded through advertisements.

I hope these ideas can work for some folks and not just fishing captains. If you have a business, why not offer the vets something special? They EARNED it, FOR SURE.
