Guys, my boat has been hauled for some repairs. While its out, I figured it would be an ideal time to install a surface temp gauge and probe. Offshore time is right around the corner. My sounder is supposed to have that capability (furuno fcv-600) but for some reason, the temp cababilities are...well...not so capable.
I've only got about a week before she's gotta go back in...which includes: getting advice on what unit to buy from you guys, actually buying it, picking up/delivery etc, and installing it.
Any advice for a guy in a bit of a hurry?
Thanks!

I have seen mostly Dytek as a stand alone unit though mine did not last 2 seasons from I suspect sun/heat to the LCD since it seemed to get real hot. Smart sensor from Airmar I would think would be excellent given Airmar's name and experience in the marine market. I have the RD 30 furuno with the smart sensor high precision temp that has been flawless in 3 seasons and with the display so large, someone can keep an eye on the temp even though someone else is at the helm.
good luck!

I second Vince's recommendation. The dytek is a good unit, especially if you want a display that will mount in your dash next to your other gauges. I had one that lasted forever than conked out a few seasons ago. I would get the RD-30 though, if i were you. That's a really nice machine and is very expandable. You can get the smart sensor for depth/temp, and later add on othersensors too, like a gps, or weather center. nice little piece of equiptment

If you want to stick with Furuno to keep the look the same, you can get the T-2000. I have that on my boat and overall I have been rather happy with it. Well functioning and simple to use. Not sure on the price.
