Yes I am not a kayaker...I want to use this forum here to highlight a problem i have with kayakers.... Last season not once but on many occasions i almost hit kayakers who were fishing at night and were showing no light...this was in oyster bay area...so i am sure those guys know that they almost became chum......guys do me a favor show a light and a radar reflector is not a bad idea....i can pick u on my radar but i have dead spot also.....

A radar reflector is a good idea. What size are they and I would imagine that a marine store would be the place.
Whenever I'm in a place where there are boats I have lights on if I'm night fishing. Most of my night fishing is in places where boats wouldn't go during daylight, let alone in the dark. In these places my light is off.

Polodog............you bring up an excellent point!!!!
I'm shocked at some of the people I know who paddle at night with these tiny lil PFD c lites (to many "dark" areas unless you have them front and back.Even then it is a hard thing to see if your not looking)and think that is OK to be in areas where boats are.
Shallow water it is fine...........but I've crossed to many channels and no longer will boat with someone ill prepared.
Lighting is something I've got to rig better this year!
A friend recently rigged a simple 3' long 3/4 wooden dowl with a light (360) on top.Keeps the light up high and visible.
Good post...........and we should start stressing the importance of lighting on these boards more often.
Lets hear how others are lit up...........

polodog I couldn't agree with you more. Not to smart going out at night on a kayak and have no lights. Same goes for some boaters that speed all over the place and pass within 20ft of you. As for kayaks I believe it will only get worse as more and more people start buying kayaks to fish from. As we all know from either driving on the roads or while out on the water. When god was giving out brains lots of people missed the line.
